Voices of New Hope (Jan-Feb 05)
> 1/23 - 2/13: CJME and Village
Presbyterian Church - "Voices of New Hope: Prospects for Peace in Israel and
Palestine"
> 3/12: Mahdi Bray, a distinguished civil and human rights activist and
executive director of the Muslim American Society (MAS) Freedom Foundation in
Washington, DC, spoke to about 40 people at the "Need to Struggle for Justice
and Peace" seminar at the KC Islamic Center. Speaking on the same seminar panel
were representatives of three Kansas City area peace organizations - Nancy
Carry, KC Iraq Task Force; Ira Harritt, American Friends Service Committee; and
Matt Quinn, Citizens for Justice in the Middle East. During Mahdi Bray's talk he
said the time has come that the "tears of Palestinian women are the same as
tears of Israeli women," referring the sorrow of both sides on the effects of
the violence. He cautioned that Muslims and others interested in peace and
justice need to "speak truth to power" and that our silence lends support to
those causing injustice.
