1) January 23 through February 15 - Unicorn Theatre play focuses on Middle East
violence
-- January 23-February 15: The Unicorn Theatre continues its 30th Anniversary
season with the professional World Premiere of former Kansas City playwright
Karen Sunde's, HOW HIS BRIDE CAME TO ABRAHAM, a politically-charged drama about
young strangers divided by a holy war who learn about friendship when faced with
their enemy.
-- Discussions will follow the performances on January 27, February 1, February
3 and February 8.
-- From Kansas City Star review (1/21): Sunde's tense parable, in which a
wounded male Israeli soldier finds himself trapped with a female Palestinian
terrorist, contends that any true solution to the region's age-old woes must
hinge on talking, not killing. "I love the fairness of the play," said Cynthia
Levin, producing artistic director at the Unicorn Theatre, where the show will
have its professional world premiere. "You find out what happens if you're face
to face with your enemy, and you get to really talk to your enemy. That's the
only way that we can resolve our differences."

3) New Film - Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land: U.S. Media & the
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
This pivotal video exposes how the foreign policy interests of American
political elites--working in combination with Israeli public relations
strategies--exercise a powerful influence over news reporting about the Middle
East conflict. Combining American and British TV news clips with observations of
analysts, journalists, and political activists, Peace, Propaganda & the Promised
Land provides an historical overview, a striking media comparison, and an
examination of factors that have distorted U.S. media coverage and, in turn,
American public opinion.
Interviewees include Seth Ackerman, Mjr. Stav Adivi, Rabbi Arik Ascherman, Hanan
Ashrawi, Noam Chomsky, Robert Fisk, Dr. Neve Gordon, Toufic Haddad, Sam Husseini,
Hussein Ibish, Robert Jensen, Rabbi Michael Lerner, Karen Pfeifer, Alisa
Solomon, and Gila Svirsky.

About us: Kansas City-based Citizens for Justice in the Middle East (CJME) seeks
to educate the American public about the issues involved in the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to end U.S. support for the Israeli occupation
of the Palestinian territories.
Composed of Kansas City area citizens concerned about the direction of U.S.
policy in the Middle East, Citizens for Justice in the Middle East urges
ordinary American citizens to speak out in favor of an even-handed U.S. policy
in the Middle East that recognizes the rights and aspirations of both Israelis
and Palestinians. Only by respecting the need to provide both parties in the
conflict with security and self-determination can a viable and just peace be
assured.
