HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF-
"Open your hearts" to help

Dear Peace Supporters,

Our friends at Village Presbyterian Church are asking CJME supporters to "open our hearts" to Katrina hurricane victims. Mark Braden at Village, who worked with CJME organizing this year's Voices of New Hope speaking series, is asking for your direct assistance in a number of ways. Please read on how you can help!

Village Presbyterian Church in conjunction with Heart-to-Heart International, is taking two buses to Houston, Texas on Sunday, September 4, returning on Tuesday, September 6. They are taking much needed supplies to hurricane victims who have relocated from devastated areas. They hope to transport 100 people back to the Kansas City area, where they will be provided homes to live in. Each bus will have a team of 5 professionals, including nurses, a doctor and security staff. Village needs your help in the following areas:

  • A qualified nurse to provide health service to those in need in Houston and possibly on return to the Kansas City. Spanish-speaking helpful.
  • An individual with security experience to provide assistance on the trip to Houston and return.
  • Individuals or families to share their home with hurricane victims. More details on what this includes will be provided by Mark.

If you can join with Village on the bus, please call Mark at 816-896-2452.

Village has also asked KC residents to bring personal care items to the church, starting tomorrow, Saturday, 9/3/05 at 9:00 am. Village Pres. Church is located at 6701 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, Kansas. The items they are looking for are:

  • Infant formula, shampoo, baby diapers, toothbrushes and the like.

The hurricane has drastically effected the lives of many poor people in the Louisiana and surrounding areas. The victims of the hurricane are neighbors of Kansas and Missouri! Each one of us can make an impact in improving their lives by contributing what we can.

in peace,

Matt Quinn
