Integrated housing for Arabs and Jews
Israeli peace activist to speak in Kansas City on promoting peace by developing multi-ethnic communities in Israel
Can people who rarely live as neighbors ever live in peace? Can Arabs and Israelis learn from Kansas City's mistakes?
Fred Schlomka, Operations Manager for The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, will speak on "Mosaic Communities: MultiNational Housing Cooperatives in Israel."
Schlomka, a resident of Israel and former resident of the U.S., has had experience in non-violent actions that have opposed demolitions of Arab homes. He has been a leader in working against discrimination in Israeli housing. He is now organizing multi-ethnic housing cooperatives in Israel -- the next logical step in building reconciliation between Arabs and Jews. Few such communities exist in Israel today, where housing laws continue to favor Jewish citizens over Arab citizens.

Information about Citizens for Justice in the Middle East
Kansas City-based Citizens for Justice in the Middle East seeks to educate
the American public about the issues involved in the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict and to end U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian
territories.
Composed of Kansas City area citizens concerned about the direction of U.S.
policy in the Middle East, Citizens for Justice in the Middle East urges
ordinary American citizens to speak out in favor of an even-handed U.S. policy
in the Middle East that recognizes the rights and aspirations of both Israelis
and Palestinians. Only by respecting the need to provide both parties in the
conflict with security and self-determination can a viable and just peace be
assured.
