"An Inspiration" - from local review of "Budrus" film playing in KC this week
Tivoli Cinemas, 4050 Pennsylvania, is providing a unique opportunity for Kansas Citians to view a quality up-close-and-personal documentary of the Palestinian land owners' nonviolent struggle to prevent the separation wall/fence from ruining their agricultural lands inside the Green Line (1967 border). Notably, several Israelis joined in, as did some internationals - truly a collaborative effort. Even more of an inspiration is the full participation of the women of the village.
The film clearly states that the Palestinians involved do not object to the wall/fence being built on the 1967 borders. Their objection is to the wall/fence being built deep into the Palestinian side of the border. I'm sure any of us would feel the same if our farms were being destroyed illegally.
I went to see this remarkable film tonight and want to urge you to consider seeing it for yourselves. It is scheduled to be here only a week (starting today) at the following showtimes: 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6:45 p.m. Although it took months of persistent daily resistance, the ultimate success of the residents of Budrus has inspired several other villages to form nonviolent resistance groups to stop the wall.
I stayed to watch the long list of credits at the end and saw some familiar names, which some of you will recognize: Sami Awad, Holy Land Trust, Hope Flowers School, Daoud Nasser, Rabbi Arik Ascherman, Rabbis for Human Rights, Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, Sundance Film Festival, and . . . . I'm sure I missed several others as they rolled by quickly.
Let's support Tivoli for bringing this worthy film to Kansas City, and show that Kansas Citians care about justice. And please tell your friends!
